On Friday, 16th August 2024, the Ugolee People’s Foundation proudly launched the first phase of its Cash Empowerment Initiative designed to uplift and support hardworking cocoa farmers in Abia State. This significant program aims to provide financial assistance, ensuring that these essential pillars of our agricultural economy receive the tools and resources they need to grow their farms and improve their livelihoods.
At Ugolee People’s Foundation, we understand the critical role that cocoa farmers play in both the local and national economy. Cocoa farming is not just a way of life for many families in Abia State but a vital part of the agricultural chain that sustains industries and businesses across the country. Through our empowerment initiative, we are committed to boosting the productivity of these farmers while helping to nurture the dynamic Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) tied to this sector.

Empowering Farmers, Strengthening Communities
The Cash Empowerment Initiative represents a crucial step toward making a tangible impact in the lives of those who work tirelessly to produce one of Nigeria’s most valuable agricultural exports—cocoa. By providing cash assistance directly to these farmers, the Ugolee People’s Foundation aims to reduce financial strain, promote sustainable farming practices, and ultimately enhance cocoa yield and quality.
Our goal is to ensure that every farmer involved has the resources to invest in improved farming techniques, tools, and necessary inputs like fertilizers, seedlings, and other materials. We believe this will not only increase their output but also improve the quality of life for their families and strengthen the economic backbone of the community.
Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
In addition to cocoa farmers, the Ugolee People’s Foundation recognizes the vital role that SMEs play in driving local economies forward. Many of the small businesses connected to cocoa production—whether involved in processing, packaging, or distributing—stand to benefit from the increased productivity of the farms they rely on.
As the program progresses, we plan to expand our efforts to include training workshops, skill development sessions, and partnerships with key stakeholders to further enhance the capabilities of these businesses. This holistic approach ensures that not just the farmers, but the entire supply chain, reaps the benefits of our initiative.
Looking Ahead
The Cash Empowerment Initiative is just the beginning. As we move forward, the Ugolee People’s Foundation is committed to expanding this program, reaching more farmers across Abia State, and providing ongoing support to SMEs. With a long-term vision of boosting agricultural productivity, improving food security, and fostering economic growth, we are excited about the positive changes this initiative will bring.
